This webinar argues that data accuracy and data quality are not technical hygiene issues. They are strategic enablers of good human judgement — and therefore of successful projects. Data, digital and AI only create value when they enable people to make better decisions faster, improve how work is done, and apply technology wisely rather than blindly.

Drawing on experience from major projects and system‑scale programmes, the session explores why better tools cannot compensate for weak data foundations, and why many organisations invest in AI without being clear about which decisions they are trying to improve, for whom, and to what end. Without that clarity, projects risk automating confusion rather than improving outcomes.

At the heart of the discussion is the often‑overlooked information value chain — from data, to insight, to decision, to action. Value is released at the decision point, yet breakdowns most often occur upstream: fragmented datasets, inconsistent definitions, siloed ownership, and poor information flow. These failures contribute to false confidence, misaligned incentives, cost overruns, and late‑stage surprises.

Crucially, the webinar reframes data quality as a people‑and‑systems issue, not just a technical one. Improving accuracy requires shared meaning, clear ownership, proportionate standards, and dependable information‑sharing infrastructure — including integration and federation across organisational boundaries.

The message is simple but challenging: if we do not deliberately design how data supports human decision‑making, projects will inherit outcomes shaped by data they didn’t intend to trust. Getting the foundations right is not optional — it is what makes success possible.
