APM Built Environment Interest Network: Delivering complex projects and programmes: Turning vision into predictable outcomes

The London Olympia redevelopment is a powerful example of opportunities and challenges involved in delivering large-scale, complex projects. Transforming a historic exhibition venue into a mixed-use cultural and commercial destination required alignment of diverse stakeholders, multiple workstreams, evolving priorities and operational objectives while maintaining momentum towards delivery. One of UK's most ambitious urban regeneration projects with theatres, entertainment venues, hotels, public realm, workspaces, cultural destinations. In the Olympia showcase webinar we will share lessons learned focusing on how governance, project controls, risk management, change control and integrated delivery strategies create predictability and accountability without compromising innovation or design quality.

We will explore how project controls enable successful outcomes through informed decision-making, management of risk and change, and effective governance frameworks. We will discuss how project leaders align stakeholder interests, navigate complexity, manage interfaces, maintain alignment as projects evolve.

We will reflect on the role of project management in safeguarding project objectives, enabling multidisciplinary collaboration and delivering meaningful social, commercial and long-term stakeholder benefits. Complex projects succeed not through control alone, but through leadership that connects vision, strategy and execution. Supported by effective project controls, this creates confidence for clients and delivery teams.
