APM South Wales and West of England Network: Prompt Engineering - how you can get the best out of Generative AI tools
As a project management professional how can you use generative AI tools effectively and efficiently to help you with your work? This event will explore how to use prompt engineering to get the quality results you want from AI tools.
This presentation provides a comprehensive exploration of prompt engineering. A prompt is a natural language input structured around five core components: context, instructions, questions, examples, and output format. Prompt engineering is a strategic discipline used to design and refine these inputs, ensuring that AI-generated results are of the highest quality and remain strictly aligned with professional objectives.
The session examines key principles such as clarity, which focuses on eliminating ambiguity through robust context, and progression, which involves decomposing complex tasks into logical stages to enhance the AI’s reasoning capabilities. Attendees will explore advanced techniques including narrative control to tailor tone and framing, as well as the management of scope and scenarios for more nuanced, situational responses.
The presentation introduces the Chain of Thought (CoT) method to expose the AI's step-by-step logic, alongside an iterative approach that treats AI interaction as a continuous dialogue of refinement. Finally, the discussion addresses critical issues of reliability and security, offering practical strategies to mitigate hallucinations and manage sensitive data safely within a professional environment.
